Project Overview
Aiton Elementary will receive a full modernization to align with DCPS’ educational specifications. The modernized Aiton Elementary building will be roughly 73,000 square feet. The modernized building will address the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and code requirements. Learning, instruction, and support technology will be brought up to capacity and cutting-edge standards.
Classrooms with appropriate square footage will be created from the original floor plan concept to create an adequate 21st century learning environment and meet the DCPS educational specification standards. The new modernized design will integrate discovery commons spaces, small group rooms, and resource rooms accommodate special projects, collaborative work, and individual pull-out instruction. The modernized design will allow for robust physical education and dinning services.
The modernized facility will serve approximately 271-students. As part of the design process, the design team will work closely with the school leadership, various DCPS Central Office departments, the Aiton Elementary School-specific School Improvement Team (SIT) along with the wider community to better understand community vision and the unique Aiton Elementary School culture.
